Project 1
Case Study and Documentation of Building Services Systems
The objectives of this assignment are as follows:
1. To introduce students to the basic principles, process and equipment of various building services systems through real life project (experiential learning).
2. To expose students to the integration of various building services systems in a building.
3. To allow students to demonstrate their understanding of building services systems
4. To develop students’ understanding and familiarity on the drawing conventions and standards for different building services systems
In a group gruop of 6 members we were given to choose a building of atleast 4 storeys which can be either a public or a commercial building. Under the tutelage of our lecturer we performed a thorough study and analysis on our choosen building, Institut Penilaian Negara (INSPEN) Bandar Baru Bangi. The following systems were analysed and studied to produce an A4 report together with 2 A2 sized project Summaries.
Upon completion of this project, i was able to identify and understand releavant information related to water and electrical supply, sewerage, mechanical ventilation and air conditioning as well as fire protection systems. i understood how each building services functions including the connections and positions of different parts of equipment. Furthermore, i learned the principles and systems as well as space implications and regulations related to different building services.
Project 2
Application of Building Services
The objective of this project is as follows:
1. To develop students understanding and knowledge of building services systems in design and construction.
2. To apply appropriate building services system and solution for a specific design.
3. To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of applicability of specific building services systems in the design in response to practical considerations.
4. To develop students’ ability to resolve issues related to specific building services systems.
This project was related to our Design Studio 2 final project, Retreat House, which is related to a domestic sized building. As an individual task we were given to demonstrate our understading on buiding services by prosposing and designing most appropriate systems for the retreat house which include: electrical supply system, cold water and hot water supply system, sewerage and sanitary system, and drainage system. The service systems were presented on 2 A2 Boards.
This project gave me the ability to identify releavant information related to water supply, liquid waste disposal, mechanical air-conditioning, fire safety and vertical transportation. i was able to describe and plan building services within the total design and construction process. Also this project taught me the installation of building services.
