Building Construction 2

Project 1
Skeletal Construction - 'A Shelter for one'

The main aim of this project was to create an understanding of skeletal structure and its releavant strcuctural components. As a group of 5, we were given to build a shelter with certain specifications using recycled materials. We explored different methods and how the structure reacts under loading. Upon completion of the shelter, it was tested with 60kg of load. Our shelter maintianed its structural strength throughout the test.

This project helpled us on how to apply construction system and recognize the implication of of construction system in design. Moreover, it taught us analyse issues of strength, stiffness, and stability of structures including modes of structural systems, forces, stress and strain and laws of static.

Project 2
Understanding Forces in Solid Structure and Surface Structure.

The main objectives of this project are

  • To create an understanding of solid structure and surface structure and its relevant structural components.

  • To understand how a solid structure and surface structure reacts under loading.

  • To demonstrate a convincing understanding of how Solid Construction and surface construction works.

  • To exploit the qualities inherent in Solid Construction and surface construction.

  • To be able to manipulate Solid Construction and surface construction to solve an oblique Design problem.

In the same groups we were given to produce a model of a real life building which shows solid and surface structures. Our group chose the Alliazn Arena as the stadium has interesting solid and surface components.
